"Bokhor! Bokhor!" (Eat! Eat!)

Besides seeing my relatives, eating Persian food was definitely the highlight of my trip: big platters of saffron rice, chicken lamb and beef kabobs and stews, tangy sumac, sweet currants, almonds and pistachios, saffron and rose icecream. Aunt Mehri spent hours scooping piles of ruby pomegranate kernels into a pretty glass bowl for her party. Yegi's sister Afsaneh made the best salad dressing I've ever had from date vinegar and fresh herbs. Basically, I just went from one feast to the next. I gained 7 pounds in the 3 weeks I was there.

This is Yassi and her sweet daughters Newsha and Lila.
